Pearl Reed, Housing Manager, leads the administration of Gallup Housing Authority’s Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) programs. Along with her dedicated staff, she oversees 263 public housing units and manages critical tenant services that include determining program eligibility, coordinating move-ins and transfers, and conducting required housekeeping and occupancy inspections. All program activities are carried out in strict compliance with HUD regulations and applicable federal and state guidelines. Pearl and her team play a vital role in maintaining housing stability for more than 263 families, making GHA one of the largest housing providers—and landlords—in the community.

Public Housing

Gallup Housing Authorities Low Rent Public Housing Program consists of 263 dwelling units available for rent to income qualified families. Funding is provided annually by U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development.  GHA maintains an occupancy rate of 98%.  Our current wait list is 2-3 years out. We are accepting applications for 1,2, and 3-bedroom units.  Our application intake is closed for four-bedroom units and elderly units due to the number of people already on the waitlist.

Applications can be submitted in-person on the First, second, and fourth Friday of every month, except for holidays. Applications can be picked up outside of our offices, located at 203 Debra dr. They are in the black document containers on the south wall. When submitting an application, it must be filled out completely, and you must have all required documentation listed on the application.  We will not complete your intake without the required items, and you may be asked to come back when you have them. GHA does not have a “preference” when it comes to our waitlist.  It is first come, first served and you must go through the process.  We do not accept letters, recommendations for housing, or references from third parties.  We also do not have emergency housing or provide assistance with rent or security deposits. Everyone must complete the process and will be added to the waitlist, if applicable.

Section 8

WE ARE CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE SECTION 8 PROGRAM DUE TO THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE ON OUR WAITLIST.

The Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP), known as Section 8, provides housing rental assistance to aid low-income families in paying rent to private landlords for affordable, decent, and safe rental housing. The GHA provides rental assistance in the form of a monthly payment to a landlord on behalf of the tenant.

Under the HCVP program operates two sub-programs: The regular Section 8 program and the VASH program. While Section 8 is open to the public, our VASH program is strictly for Veterans.  Funds for all vouchers are provided by the department of housing and Urban Development (HUD) to make rental assistance payments on behalf of eligible tenants.

VASH

If you are a Veteran seeking housing, see our application process below. when applying ask to speak to one of our Housing Department staff.  VASH vouchers must be obtained through coordination with a VA Case Manager, who can assist you with obtaining a voucher.
